HI I’M
DR. DANIELLE HAULSEE

ABOUT ME
My research interests include combining innovative technology and oceanographic remote sensing techniques with the biogeography and movement of marine species. Outside of science, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, surfing and foraging for mushrooms with my two dogs!

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER, STANFORD UNIVERSITY
Sept 2018 - Present
Create predictive dynamic species distribution models for sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) and blue marlin (Makaira nigricans) using satellite tag locations and remotely sensed environmental predictors
Quantify the impact of large and regional scale climate oscillations and bycatch by domestic and international commercial fisherman on billfish species
Working with recreational fisherman to attach electronic satellite tags (Wildlife Computers, Microwave Telemetry) to wild caught billfish
POST DOCTORAL RESEARCHER, UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE
Mar 2017 – Sept 2018
Quantify species occurrence and habitat selection using species distribution modeling of acoustically tagged fish in the Delaware Wind Energy Lease Area
Working with a commercial fisherman, surgically implant acoustic tags in endangered Atlantic Sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus) and commercially important Winter Skate (Leucoraja ocellata)
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT, UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE
June 2010 - Mar 2017
Created predictive species distribution models for Sand Tigers (Carcharias taurus) in the Mid-Atlantic using generalized additive mixed modeling (GAMM)
Performed social network analysis on acoustic co-detection records from implanted receivers
Identified habitat selection of Sand Tigers during migration from an autonomous underwater vehicle
Developed novel tagging protocol and assisted in training crew in proper shark and boat handling techniques
